Late goal blow for top six hopes

Clydesdale Bank Premier League
Saints (0) v Dundee United (1)
Attendance [5,796]

Saints hopes of making the top six suffered a major blow in this Easter Monday evening fixture when the visitors grabbed a dramatic late goal to take all three points.

Saints enjoyed plenty of the ball and created a number of chances but spurned the best one that came their way in the 69th minute after they were awarded a penalty kick.

Dixon mis-timed his tackle on Dave Mackay and there was few complaints from the visitors as referee Steve Conroy pointed to the spot.

Normally reliable from 12 yards, Liam Craig might have been un-nerved by being asked to re-spot the ball but when he took the kick it was too close to goalkeeper Pernis who pulled off a reasonably comfortable save.

It looked like a goalless draw was going to be the order of the day but seven minutes from time United grabbed what proved to be the winner.

It was another nightmare for Liam Craig who dived into a challenge of Buaben but got nowhere near the ball and when the United man flung in the cross from the right Irish striker John Daly headed powerfully into the net.
