A TALE OF PENALTIES AT EASTER ROAD

A TALE OF PENALTIES AT EASTER ROAD Saints bounced back from losing a second minute goal to grab a well-deserved point from a 1-1 draw against Hibs at Easter Road this afternoon.

Keen to avenge the 5-1 drubbing they took in Perth ten days ago, Hibs came out of the traps quickly and were in front early on when Graeme Smith brought down Colin Nish and Anthony Stokes drilled the ball home from the spot.

Saints had their own appeal for a penalty turned down in the second half when Murray Davidson was sandwiched between two players but referee Alan Muir was unmoved. However, he wasted no time in awarding a spot kick six minutes from time when Davidson's attempts to bring the ball under control were stopped by a clear hand ball.

Liam Craig blasted home the penalty to the delight of the travelling support.

To complete the story of penalty kicks and appeals, the home side had a decent shout for a hand ball right at the death when Dave Mackay looked to handle but the home fans were left frustrated.

In a game which saw each side have four players booked, this was a thoroughly deserved share of the spoils for Saints who enjoyed plenty of possession and who had two late chances to grab all three points.
