IMPROVING UNDER 19s DRAW WITH ABERDEEN

IMPROVING UNDER 19s DRAW WITH ABERDEEN Our Under 19 side’s recent improvement in form continued this afternoon when they drew 1-1 against Aberdeen at Stirling University.

Aberdeen had taken the lead but Saints got a deserved equaliser when Matt Hemsley (pictured) glanced home a Martyn Shields free kick with his head.

Given that the first game against The Dons had ended in a 6-0 defeat, today’s result brought a great deal of pleasure to Coach Alec Cleland.

He said: “It was a long journey back from Aberdeen earlier in the season after that heavy defeat and I think the boys had a point to prove today to show that they were a better side than they had shown that day.

“I asked them to take the confidence from their second half display against Falkirk last weekend and from a good 90 minute showing in midweek against Hamilton Accies and they did that today against a good, young Aberdeen side.

“We competed in every department and were certainly worthy of the draw and indeed the boys kept going in a bid to win the game.”

The starting line-up today was unchaged from the midweek win over hamilton and was: Duffy, Alexander, Porter, Durnan, Lindsay, O'Hare, Hemsley, McIntosh, Heagney, May, Reynolds.
