DEL PLEASED WITH FIRST PRE-SEASON MATCH

DEL PLEASED WITH FIRST PRE-SEASON MATCH Derek McInnes was pleased with much of what he saw in his side’s performance against Forfar Athletic on Saturday.

Saints battled back from losing an early goal to defeat the Station Park side 3-1 thanks to headed goals from Sam Parkin and Kevin Rutkiewicz either side of a Liam Craig penalty kick.

“I don’t like to read too much into early pre-season games but there were encouraging signs. There was a control and incisiveness about much of our play.” said Del.

“There was the usual signs of rustiness but that was to be expected – we have not done much football work with the boys so far because we’ve have been concentrating on the physical element of training but the games will come thick and fast now.”

The manager was pleased with the impact of his new signings – only Jamie Adams missed out due to a niggling injury but he should feature at Arbroath on Wednesday – and felt Cleveland Taylor and Sam Parkin both gave glimpses of what they are about.

“Cleveland will excite supporters. He is very positive when he gets the ball and the quality of his deliveries was excellent – none more so than the one for Sam’s goal which he took well.”

Del was delighted to have Kevin Rutkiwicz and Andy Jackson involved after their injury woes last season and hopes to have them playing increasing roles as the build-up to the SPL campaign nears.
