DOBIE MISSES IRELAND TRIP

DOBIE MISSES IRELAND TRIP Striker Scott Dobie will miss out on the team’s trip to Northern Ireland next week.

The recent recruit suffered a groin injury during the course of the win at Arbroath last Wednesday and won’t be risked in the matches against Lisburn Distillery or Dungannon Swifts – hopes are high that Jody Morris will feature in the second of those two fixtures.

Speaking of the Dobie situation, Manager Derek McInnes said: “It’s a bit of a frustration for Scott but we said we wouldn’t take anyone across there who couldn’t play a part. It’s all about fitness and with the initial diagnosis indicating an absence of around ten days I felt Scott was better placed staying home and working with the physio. He just over-stretched a bit at Gayfield but hopefully he can feature in the home matches we have coming up.”

Youngster Liam Caddis will take Dobie's place for the trip to Ireland.

Turning to Friday night’s 0-0 draw at Berwick Rangers, Del said “It was a tough game and Berwick were in decent shape. They were a stuffy and fit side who proved strong opposition. We got more out of that physically than the previous two matches.

“I thought some of the boys looked a bit leggy. We had the game on Wednesday which was a late night for the players who travel a distance, they were training on Thursday and then we had the long journey to Berwick so I’ll not be too critical. We lacked a wee bit of quality in our forward play but there were plenty of positives to take from it.”

The manager was pleased to get Jamie Adams into the action, the midfield recruit having missed the previous two public games.

Del said: “Jamie trained yesterday and had no reaction so I wanted to get him on the pitch and get some game time. He did fine in the period he was involved.”

Adams has a carry-over one match ban and won’t feature in the opening SPL game at Tynecastle. He’s not the only Perth suspension for that game – Manager Derek McInnes begins the season with a two game touchline ban following his sending off in the final match of last season against Hamilton Accies.

A hat-trick of penalties from Andy Jackson paved the way for the Saints Under 19 side to defeat Turriff United 5-3 at Newburgh on Saturday afternoon.

Jackson was getting some match action under his belt having been excused Friday’s trip to Berwick following the birth of his baby daughter.

In a keenly contested and entertaining match against the Highland League side, Liam Caddis scored the other two Saints goals with a clinical finish from foot and a powerful header from a corner kick.
