A Falkirk born striker who came through the club’s youth system and who made a few reserve team appearances in 2004/05, netting a couple of goals. Andy joined the club's full time ground staff at the start of 04/05 but found himself involved in the first team quickly, making his first team debut in just the second league game of the season when he came on as a sub against QOS. Andy impressed many with his performances at reserve team and Under 19 level that season where he found the back of the net with regularity and his goals went a long way to securing the Under 19 League Championship for Saints. Further involvement in the first team from the bench followed in the spring and he was given a two-year deal for the 05/06 and 06/07 seasons and prior to the transfer deadline he went on loan to Cowdenbeath where he had a successful spell before being recalled at the start of January 2006, making his first league appearance of the season for Saints as a substitute in the New year game v Dundee. However, Owen Coyle was keen to see Andy continue to develop and he went on loan again to Forfar Athletic for the remainder of the season. He remained at Perth throughout the 06/07 campaign, featuring from the bench on a number of occasions and signed a one-year deal to take him through 2007/08. After some impressive performances coming off the bench in the opening few games of last season Andy was rewarded with a start against Ross County in the Challenge Cup and scored his first senior goal for Saints in the 2-0 win and followed that up a couple of weeks later with his first league goal in the 2-2 draw at Morton. Continued impressive form in the first quarter of the season saw him rewarded with a two year extension to his contract and he repaid the club with plenty more goals – an impressive first full season tally of 19 by the time the campaign had ended. Somehow, Andy slipped under the Scotland international set-up’s radar as Irish grandparents made him eligible to play for the Republic of Ireland and having worn the emerald green at under 18 and under 19 level he was involved in their Under 21 squad in autumn 2008. However, it was a bright spot on an otherwise desperate season for the player. Illness struck during the penultimate match of the 07/08 campaign, the recovery from which ruled him out of the opening weeks of the 08/09 season and a couple of ankle injuries resulted in further spells on the sidelines and after 19 goals the previous season he had not managed to break his 08/09 duck before his season was prematurely ended on 14th February when he tore his achilles tendon in the home game against Livingston. Andy returned to pre-season training early in preparation for the club’s return to the SPL but was hit by further body blows as illness and injury returned and it was December 2009 before he was able to resume raining. However, a product few weeks either side of Christmas saw him take strides towards match fitness and on 26th January he was loaned out to Arbroath for one month in a bid to get some match action. That loan was extended but he eventually returned to Saints and made his return appearance when he played the final few seconds of our 3-1 win over Aberdeen at Pittodrie in April 2010.
