Steven is a striker who became Owen Coyle's fifth summer signing in 2005. Steven began his senior career with Dundee and came through the youth ranks at Dens Park (part of his development also included a successful time on loan to Forfar Athletic) before going on to make over 100 appearances for the Dens Park side. A move to England came in 2004 when he joined Plymouth Argyle but injury robbed him of the chance to make an impact at Home Park. Steven signed a three year deal at Saints and after an impressive pre-season, scored on his debut in the Bell's Cup tie with Alloa in August 2005 and grabbed his first hat-trick in a royal blue jersey in the 5-1 Bell's Cup win over Raith Rovers. However, his season was curtailed when he picked up an injury against Dundee on 2nd January and it was mid-March before he was able to get back into action with sub appearances against Ross County and Dundee. Fit again for the start of the 2006/2007 season, 'Savo' opened his account for the season with a double against Raith Rovers in a 3-1 Challenge Cup win and found the net regularly in the early weeks of the season before crowning the early part of his season with both goals in the memorable 2-0 win over Rangers at Ibrox in the quarter final of the CIS Insurance Cup, a performance that gained him the Player of the Round award from the sponsors and a game he described as being the most memorable of his career. However, that proved to be the highlight of the campaign for 'Savo' who then succumbed to further knee problems which greatly curtailed the remainder of that 2006/07 season and unfortunately just when he seemed to have over come these problems he sustained a different knee injury following a training ground accident and although surgery in May 2007 repaired the damage, Steven faced the opening months of the 07/08 campaign on the sidelines. However, towards the end of November he came back into contention and on 8th December he made his first start in eleven months against Morton and scored in the 2-2 draw. Later that week Saints moved to secure his services on a two-year extension to his contract and he is now tied to the club until summer 2010. Steven ended the 07/08 season with 8 goals bringing his Perth career tally to 33 and he was soon adding to that during 2008/2009 as he looked to make up for some lost time and he received a timely boost in February 2009 when he was offered and signed a one year extension to his existing contract which will see him stay with Saints until the summer of 2011. Savo scored twice in the penultimate match of the 08/09 season as Saints beat Morton 3-1 to clinch the league championship - the second of those goals being his 50th for the club. Injury limited his impact in the SPL although he got back into action on 19 December when he played the second half of the 1-0 win over St Mirren.
Steven's home jersey for 2010/2011 is available for sponsorship and his away jersey for 2010/2011 is kindly sponsored by the McKinnon Family.
