Super Js - All About Super Saint
SUPERSAINT – WHO IS HE?!
One of the longest-established mascots in Scotland, Supersaint has been the St Johnstone mascot for twenty years and first appeared at McDiarmid Park on 24th August 1991 for a game against Hearts.
That appearance – and indeed all his early appearances – came in printed form within the pages of the club’s match programme and that game back in ’91 saw the first of a series of cartoon strips which ran for many years featuring Supersaint who, within a matter of weeks, had introduced Saints fans to his faithful canine friend Ormond the Wonderdog.
The creators of the dynamic pair were St Johnstone supporters Morris Heggie and Steve Bright who it’s fair to say had a degree of expertise in the field given that they both worked for DC Thomson and were jointly responsible for many of the world famous cartoon characters who appeared in the pages of The Beano and Dandy.

What or who is SuperSaint? The answer is simple - he’s his own very unique character and that’s why we think that makes him special in the football mascot world. Many clubs go for characters associated with the name or nickname of the club but SuperSaint is very much his own man. He doesn’t pander to pandas, bow to bears or submit to squirrels…….
Within a few years it soon became clear that the popular cartoon character needed to have a more lifelike presence and so SuperSaint was finally persuaded to make personal appearances on a match day which he did for a number of years before taking a short break while he recovered from the sort of exhaustion only superheroes understand.
However, in August 2011 he made a welcome to return to match days at McDiarmid Park and can be found in the stadium in the build up to matches. Catch him if you can.
